Design Notes from Wyoming: Lodge Layers & Mountain-Inspired Color

TRAVEL

June 25, 2025

We recently returned from a trip to Wyoming, and I came home completely inspired by the layered lodge look that seemed to be everywhere we turned. There’s something about the way the interiors out there mirror the landscape—deep, rich colors pulled straight from the mountains themselves.

Think burnished copper, weathered wood, pine greens, inky blues, rich reds, and those perfect burnt oranges that show up right before the leaves turn. Every room we stepped into felt like a masterclass in warmth and texture—nothing precious, but everything considered.

The ranch we stayed at (TURPIN RANCH) felt like Wyoming and Ralph Lauren had a baby: masculine but elegant, wild yet refined. Leather, wool, heavy plaids, natural stone, antique brass, layered rugs—it was all there, and it worked beautifully. I found myself falling in love with the coziness of it all, how every piece felt like it had a story.

While my personal aesthetic leans lighter and more pared-back at home, I truly have an appreciation for all styles of design. There’s something about being immersed in a completely different environment that expands your creative perspective.

Here are some of our favorite tile lays from The Old Faithful Inn. They are color-filled, texture-rich shots that withstand the test of time—hope they leave you as inspired as I was.

Whether it was a wool blanket tossed over the back of a leather sofa, antler sconces casting a warm glow, or a perfectly patinaed copper sink tucked into a wood-wrapped powder bath—every detail had intention. It reminded me that great design doesn’t always have to feel new. Sometimes the most inspiring spaces are the ones that feel timeworn, collected, and rooted in place.

This trip definitely left me dreaming of deeper tones and heavier textures, especially as we look toward the cooler months. I’ve already tucked a few ideas away for fall updates at home (and yes, I’m eyeing some forest green and rust accents).

Design inspiration can come from anywhere—but there’s something special about drawing it from the land itself. Wyoming, with its wide skies, weathered barns, and soul-warming interiors, gave me just that.

Thanks for coming along—and if you’re feeling the lodge look too, let me know in the comments or share what’s been inspiring you lately.

Until next time,
Lyndsey
