Office Renovation in Buckhead: From Gray Walls to Welcoming Design

Design

August 27, 2025

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of transforming a Buckhead property that had a unique story of its own. Once a private residence, the building had gradually evolved into a hub for multiple businesses. When a law firm took over the space, they asked us to create an environment that felt more inviting while still meeting the practical needs of a busy office.

The design program included:

  • A client waiting area
  • A boardroom
  • A staff lounge
  • Two private lawyer offices
  • Two general staff offices

Our challenge? The entire space had been washed in gray — walls, ceilings, and trim — leaving it flat and uninspired.

Setting the Tone with Color & Trim

We chose to keep the existing flooring but focused on lightening and layering the space. Ceilings were painted crisp white to match the trim, immediately lifting the rooms and balancing the heavy gray.

In the back offices, we extended the picture-frame molding from the hallway around the perimeter of the rooms, adding architectural interest and continuity.

Functional Updates with Style

Bathrooms: A tired bathroom got a complete refresh with a new vanity, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and a dramatic navy-painted ceiling.

Kitchen: Without replacing cabinetry or appliances, we updated the space with a navy subway tile backsplash and new countertops — small changes that made a big impact.

Spaces Designed for People

  • The Staff Lounge: A former cubicle-style office was reimagined as a cozy lounge. We layered in leather swivel chairs, a large coffee table, floor-to-ceiling draperies, and a custom bar/beverage area. It’s now a place where the team can relax, recharge, and connect.
  • The Boardroom: A long front room became the firm’s new boardroom. We reworked the access point, allowing us to install double stained-wood doors with custom brass handles. Inside, a solid wood conference table (with reinforced floor joists to support its weight), custom rolling chairs, a grounding rug, and dramatic draperies created a space that feels both substantial and inviting.
  • Private Offices: Each lawyer’s office was tailored to reflect their individual personality. We avoided the “stuffy” law office aesthetic and instead created spaces that are creative, approachable, and client-friendly.

The Result

What started as an all-gray, impersonal building is now a layered, welcoming workplace where clients feel at ease and staff feel inspired. This project was a reminder that thoughtful design can completely transform not just how a space looks, but how it functions day to day.

We’re so grateful to have been part of this renovation and, as always, a big thank you to our talented friend and photographer Tara Carter Photography for capturing the finished project so beautifully.
