A Magical Visit to the Stoffer Home Christmas Event in Grand Rapids

Seasonal Decor

Last week, we had the pleasure of traveling to Grand Rapids, Michigan, for the Stoffer Home Christmas Event—and it was absolutely delightful! It felt like the perfect way to usher in the holiday season, surrounded by beautiful design and festive cheer.

I first discovered Jean Stoffer’s work when I read her book Establishing Home last year. Since then, I’ve become a devoted fan, watching every episode of her three-season television show The Established Home. Jean’s approach to interior design has always resonated with me—her ability to blend style, function, and warmth is truly inspiring.

Attending the Stoffer Home Christmas Event in person was an unforgettable experience. It was a joy to see the Stoffer design philosophy brought to life in such a beautiful, seasonal setting.

The event perfectly showcased Jean’s commitment to creating spaces that feel both timeless and welcoming, making it the ideal place to celebrate the holiday season.

As I walked through the event, I was particularly inspired by the use of both fresh and faux greenery, garlands, and ribbon, which added a rich, festive touch to every room.

Whether it was the lush garlands draped over mantels or the elegant swags of ribbon that adorned every corner, the thoughtful design details truly brought the holiday spirit to life.

Here are a few of my favorite views from the event, highlighting the stunning use of greenery, ribbon, and garlands—both real and faux—that made the space feel magical and festive:

A few design tips I picked up along the way that I thought were worth sharing:

  • Dried Hydrangeas & Ranunculus: Mixing dried hydrangeas with fresh greenery and ranunculus added a beautiful twist to the traditional holiday florals. The dried hydrangeas brought texture, while the ranunculus offered pops of color and softness.
  • Velvet Ribbon with Frayed Edges: Velvet ribbon was used throughout the event, with the frayed edges adding a touch of rustic elegance. I loved how this soft texture contrasted with the greenery. You can find this type of ribbon at Hobby Lobby in a variety of colors, which makes it easy to personalize your holiday decor.
  • Fresh & Faux Garlands: Fresh garlands adorned the exteriors of the home, while faux garlands were used inside. The faux garlands were doubled to create a fuller, more lush look, making a simple decoration feel even more luxurious.

Each vignette showcased how beautifully greenery can be used to enhance a space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you prefer the fresh scent of real greenery or the longevity and versatility of faux, these arrangements provided a perfect balance of elegance and seasonal charm.

The event also reminded me of the importance of home during the holidays. Jean’s vision of a thoughtfully designed space—one that blends comfort, elegance, and functionality—reminds us how meaningful our surroundings can be, especially when shared with loved ones.

From the warm, inviting decor to the festive touches that filled the space, the Stoffer Home Christmas Event was a wonderful way to kick off the season. I’m so grateful for the chance to experience it firsthand, and I’m already looking forward to next year!
