Fresh coats of paint on the walls and trim set the tone, while the reimagined bookcases—with beautiful arches chosen by the homeowners—add architectural character. A bold dark finish on the built-ins gave them even more presence and balance in the room.

For the layout, we centered all new furnishings around the fireplace, opening up a clear walkway from the kitchen to the dining room and front entry. The fabrics we selected are as practical as they are beautiful—kid-friendly, pet-friendly, and liquid-repellent. To bring warmth and texture, we layered in wood accents alongside black iron tables and a sleek firescreen, which helped give the firebox the right scale in relation to the mantel styling above.
