The Shockley Project holds a special place in our portfolio as one of our very first custom home builds. The homeowners envisioned a classic home with timeless selections, and we worked closely with them to bring that vision to life, incorporating both elegant design elements and thoughtful functionality to suit their family’s needs.
One of the key requirements for this home was creating two separate prep areas to accommodate the family’s dietary needs and prevent cross-contamination due to food allergies. We designed a functional kitchen layout that offered the space and flexibility needed to keep the family safe while still allowing for seamless meal preparation.
A standout feature of this home is the pantry, where we added a full door from the garage directly into the pantry—an incredibly convenient design choice that allows for easy and efficient unloading of groceries. This simple, yet effective addition significantly enhances daily functionality, making life just a little bit easier for the homeowners.
The client also had a specific request for a brick front porch, and we were thrilled to bring that dream to life. To further enhance the home's timeless appeal, we carried the same brick inside, wrapping it around the family’s fireplace and creating a striking, cohesive design element that flows beautifully from the exterior to the interior.
Additionally, the foyer became a defining space in the home with the addition of picture frame molding—a design element that became an instant hit and has since been a repeat request from many of our clients. The detailed molding adds a sense of sophistication and elegance, making the entryway feel warm and inviting.
The Shockley Project is a perfect example of how custom design can blend timeless aesthetics with modern functionality. At Highland Home Design Company, we pride ourselves on creating homes that are as beautiful as they are livable.
